The 2007 Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve had a safety car 23 laps into the race. That year, a new rule did not allow drivers to come into the pits at the start of a safety car period. So Robert Kubica, who was running in P8, stopped at the end of the safety car period. The pit exit light was red and Kubica had to stop. Just in front of him, Giancarlo Fisichella did jump the light and was black flagged for it. The pit stop did cost Kubica track position and he dropped to P15 on fresh tires. So when the safety car was released with 44 laps remaining, Kubica was close behind Jarno Trulli on the run down to the hairpin. Trulli, defended the inside line, but Kubica already had his front wing along side the Toyota. This is where the video below starts.

Aftermath

Within 20 seconds after the crash, marshalls began extracting Kubica from the wreckage. He was taken to hospital and it was revealed to the public during the race that Kubica had no fractures and a mild concussion. There was a discussion about the barriers and the bumpy runoff. For the following year, it was decided to move the wall closer to the track and add more debris fencing. Amazingly, Kubica won that race in 2008, which to this day is his sole victory.
